Chapter 1: How COVID-19 Accelerated the SaaS Sector

The COVID era is a rough period for all of us. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone working at the forefront to solve this massive problem and make it a thing of the past so that everyone can get back to work and school. In the meantime, SaaS is helping to keep our society up and running.

The changes we have experienced in the SaaS sector are not going away. SaaS was already the way of the future pre-COVID. Once companies have made these transitions, nobody is going to go back.

Take Netflix, for example. This trend has existed for much longer than the pandemic. People don’t go to Blockbuster anymore to rent their movies- there is no physical product exchanging hands. It now has even replaced going to the theater. SaaS, in this sense, has replaced the traditional and physical experience of cinema among other retail experiences. And we don’t see a reversal in this.

The pandemic has acted as a catalyst for the digitization of the world as a whole, SaaS being a part of it, and the changes we see will last.

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a software delivery method that allows data to be accessed over the internet from any digital platform. More specifically, SaaS refers to business software applications delivered over the cloud. Software companies host and maintain the servers, databases, and code that makes up the application.
